This week I did something my mind tried very hard to talk me out of.
"Who are you to do this? You're not good enough yet. You're not ready. Your reel does not look professional."
You probably know that voice. It sounds reasonable and protective. It also sounds a lot like the truth, until you look closely and see it's just an old program trying to keep you small and safe.
So here's what I did anyway: I recorded my very first Instagram reel, and I applied to speak at the Effortless Summit.
My heart was racing. I felt a little nauseous. I did several takes and wanted to delete every one of them. And I pressed send.
I don't expect anything from it. I don't know if I'll be selected, and honestly, that's not the point. This step was never about the outcome. For me it was about moving from hiding to acting, from pushing to allowing, and stepping into a bolder version of myself. The one who has a message to share, and who shares it even while her voice is still shaking.
Have you ever felt this too?
Have you ever wanted something so much, while your whole body did everything it could to keep you exactly where you are?
Have you ever hidden, felt that wave of relief, and then, right behind it, the quiet disappointment of not letting yourself be seen?
If so, nothing is wrong with you. It's your nervous system doing its job.
Your nervous system wants you safe, not small
Your nervous system has one function: to keep you safe. So it will always pull you back toward what's familiar, even when the familiar is what's holding you back. Many of these patterns run quietly in the background, repeated without us even noticing.
That isn't a flaw. It's biology. And when you bring awareness to what's been unconscious, you get the power to change it.
For years I lived on autopilot: stress, pressure, pushing, proving, disconnected from my own body. What brought me back was the breath. Through SomaBreath I learned that I don't have to argue with fear. I can show my body, gently, that it's safe.
The remote control you always carry
Your breath is the remote control for your nervous system. It's always with you, it's free, and it works in seconds.
Try this with me now, wherever you are:
Breathe in slowly through your nose for 4 counts.
Hold gently at the top for 4 counts.
Let it go, long and slow through your mouth, for 6 to 8 counts. Let your shoulders drop.
Do it three times. Then notice that small shift. That's your body remembering it's safe.
This is exactly what I did before I hit record.
Your invitation this week
Pick one small, bold thing your mind says you're "not ready" for. Send the message. Share the post. Ask the question. Raise your hand.
Before you do it, take three slow breaths. Then do it scared.
Fear doesn't have to disappear before you act. It just doesn't get to lead anymore.
